Is TPS the organization that published a newsletter/magazine and organized tours for launches back in the early 80's ? I used to have stacks of those newsletters. I never did make it to a launch though. I have taken the tours at KSC, Huntsville, and JSC. The last time I toured KSC, they had those fancy buses with the shaded windows. It's just not the same as on my first tour (79 I think) when they used School Buses. On that one, a shuttle assembly (including SRBs IIRC) was stacked on the pad for some kind of test and the driver said we couldn't stop at the pad for safety reasons, while he creeped past at about 0.5 mph and so close that I think we had to stick our heads out the window to see the top of the shuttle. I wish my film from that trip hadn't gotten damaged. At Huntsville, they had a planetarium that had a sort of lock for an entryway. Once you were inside, instead of sitting, you stood on single person platforms which had the top leaned back and was spring loaded to cushion you. It was actually a building within a building and during the show, they would actually spin the entire inside, including the interior walls and ceiling, so that you would feel G forces during the show. They even warned us about not turning our heads sideways or it might make us sick. It was one of the neatest things I've ever seen. At JSC, the tour was self guided. We thought we saw a tiny sign off in the distance and found a little plaque which took us around to a grassy area behind that section of the building and another wing that was behind it. I don't even recall their being a walkway, just grass. We were wondering if security was going to get after us, but there was nobody in sight and we finally found a tiny tour plaque next to a windowless gray metal door. We went in and started wandering around. We ended up climbing some stairs and standing in a glass area over what looked like the control room for a shuttle simulator. There were a lot of people at consoles and others standing and looking over their shoulders. I was amazed that anything in there worked. Everything was rack mount with a grid on the top for ventilation and from our viewpoint we could see that almost every rack in the place had those old wide greenbar computer listings nearly covering the vent grid on top of it. Yes, it's the same organization, Founded by Carl Sagan, Bruce Murray, and Louis Friedman in 1980 I believe. There was a TPS before then, but the current iteration was founded in 1980.
