Each application has two MS Windows/x86_64 versions, why is that? All other OS only have one. Are they AMD and Intel versions, or single-threaded and multi-threaded?

One is for Windows x64 machines but the application is still 32 bits, the other for AMD x86 or x64. However all 3 applications (x86, x86_64, AMD) are exactly the same. The names:
charmm34_6.23_windows_intelx86
charmm34_6.23_windows_x86_64
charmm34_6.23_windows_amd64
