Message boards : Docking@Home Science : Run out of work? ( Message 6992 )Posted 1719 days ago by Simba123 I have not been getting any new work for a few hours now. Server status says everything is OK, so I'm not sure what is wrong. Guess I'll start up another project and try again later. |

Message boards : Docking@Home Science : Can you give us a science update? ( Message 6920 )Posted 1759 days ago by Simba123 So, this was 7 months ago, where's the update? I want a science update. Can we make it a regular thing? I'd like a monthly update. It seems that Docking@home is very short on staff. Not entirely unexpected due to the nature of the project. I do totally support the idea of a quarterly update to donors. We donate a lot of money in terms of electricity and hardware to the project, regular updates would go a long way towards validating our continued contributions. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Incorrect Function 1 ( Message 6916 )Posted 1760 days ago by Simba123 Hello, I also am seeing a lot of these 'computational error' workunits. The latest failures all seem to be coming from the 1ohr1htf series of workunits..... |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work unit is not progressing ( Message 6791 )Posted 1848 days ago by Simba123 Simba, check your inbox, I sent the spec's there Thanks Chip, It seems that some older 45nm CPUs and Windows 7 do not work with Docking. Obviously your hardware works with Docking as you've used this machine under Windows XP for 3 years without issue. So there is something about Windows 7. About the only thing I can suggest is that you go to Dell.com and download all the latest drivers for your motherboard. Annoyingly dell does not let me post a link to the correct screen. By the looks of it you have an Optiplex 780, if you can find the service tag sticker on the machine, you'll be able to enter that number in and it will give you the download options. otherwise search under 'optiplex 780' and it should come up. I can't say this will fix anything, but it might. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work unit is not progressing ( Message 6785 )Posted 1849 days ago by Simba123 Not a hardware problem as such. It just seems that Docking does not agree with certain hardware setups and Windows 7. Make sure you right click and select 'run as administrator' when you run BOINC. easiest way to get your system specs is to download a program called Speccy, available here : http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work unit is not progressing ( Message 6783 )Posted 1850 days ago by Simba123 Since I moved from XP to windows 7 all docking wu fail to progress and I am forced abort them after the expected run time is exceeded with 0% completed. That's strange. Are you running the 64 or 32 bit Windows version? Also, could you list your other hardware? As mentioned earlier, It does seem that the Docking program does have issues with certain hardware/software combinations. Your information could help track it down. If you could list your motherboard, cpu, ram brand & capacity, any overclocks & GPU that would assist greatly. Also, is your Windows fully up to date with all patches etc? Same question for your motherboard drivers and BIOS. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work unit is not progressing ( Message 6756 )Posted 1893 days ago by Simba123 That's unfortunate, seems there is something in your hardware configuration that does not like Docking; I cannot for the life of me think of what it may be though. You may get a message from one of the genius' here after the weekend with some advice. Don't give up hope just yet ;) Hello Simba123. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work unit is not progressing ( Message 6752 )Posted 1897 days ago by Simba123 Well there is a data point for the Project managers, This is not a new problem, but it seems to only crop up in certain projects with certain hardware configurations. May be a PITA to diagnose this one. Regarding the screensaver, which I know causes issues with many projects; Easiest way is to right-click on your desktop, select 'Personalize' and either change the screensaver to something else, or better yet, given the current problems nVidia has with its display drivers, disable the screensaver altogether. OR; try deleting your current Boinc manager from your machine altogether. Download and re-install the latest version of your preferred manager. During the installation process, there should be an option about using the Boinc Screensaver; make sure that is NOT chosen. Then go ahead and re-attach your projects to the manager. Hopefully problem solved. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work unit is not progressing ( Message 6750 )Posted 1897 days ago by Simba123 Try detaching the project, then re-attach without the screensaver component. If I recall correctly, I had to do that when I first joined. Have these computers been running all the time and have just started this problem, or have you just linked them to the project? Hello. |
